This thesis examines the dynamics of aluminum as a commodity and its related industries in an interdisciplinary manner. The study includes a description of the technical areas, such as the chemical properties, geology, mining and extractive metallurgy, as well as the economic arena, such as industry structure, prices, and international trade flows. Special attention is given to the reasons why this phenomenon has occured.
